Professional organizer Vicki Norris brings back the third annual community event
Sherwood resident Vicki Norris is hoping to attract 1,000 people to this year’s rendition of the Simplify Sale.
Norris, president and founder of Vicki Norris’ Restoring Order, is on a mission to help disorganized people de- clutter and give well.
Her team of professional organizers helps people “restore order” at home and at work. Over the years, she has added products, speakers, books and workshops to her offerings to give clients different solutions to order their lives.
Since 2009, Norris has hosted a unique community yard sale and free public organizing workshop at her home base, Dream Acres, headquarters of Restoring Order, located at 13691 S.W. Morgan Road, Sherwood.
This year, the third annual Simplify Sale, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature more than 50 participant stations, live music and barbecue.
Sponsors include a collection of service providers that simplify home, work and family life as well as companies and nonprofits that help people practice better stewardship and sustainable living.
Knowing that easing the donation process is key to helping people give well, Norris brings the charities onsite to the vendors to collect all the unsold goods. The Simplify Sale is, in part, a charity benefit for three local nonprofit agencies: Portland Rescue Mission, Pregnancy Resource Center and Union Gospel Mission Thrift Store.
“I wanted to involve charities that I personally believe in and that also have a similar mission as Restoring Order, which is to help people reclaim their lives,” says Norris, explaining that station vendors can arrive with a car full of clutter, sell their wares, make money and donate remaining useful items to the above charities.
“We want to encourage not only the participants to donate items to these organizations, but also attendees,” says Norris. “Our goal is to get the entire community involved in giving back and getting to know the good work of these charities.”
The mega-sale is unlike typical yard or rummage sales, she insists: It’s organized! Friendly staff wearing “SIMPLIFY” T-shirts greet and park visitors, aid vendors in set-up and tear-down, and they tend to the guests. How-to organizing videos air all day in the barn and an outdoor trade show of stewardship options awaits attendees.
The community will get to meet such life-simplifying sponsor businesses as Collin Cleaning, Family Wealth Institute and Ohler Management Services.
“I’m bringing together my favorite life-simplifying service providers,” Norris adds. “These are all businesses that I work with personally. As a professional organizing expert, business owner, wife and mom, I know what it takes to live an ordered life, and I want to share those resources with the community.”
