We love helping clients in repurposing spaces! We wanted to share our progress at an organizing client’s home in Portland, OR.
Before our organizing consultant arrived, this family’s 11 year-old son was sleeping in the living room because he didn’t have a bedroom of his own.
After completing our comprehensive intake assessment where we look at the home as a whole, we discovered under-utilized space in the downstairs of the home. Our consultant suggested that the family move the 18 year-old daughter downstairs where she would have her own small living room and bathroom and to turn the extra room into a bedroom. Essentially an apartment for this young-adult!
Previously, this space held old toys, an unused bed, and a neglected ping-pong table. Here is the before and after picture of what we did.
As you can see, this forgotten space has transformed into a suite for the family’s daughter, along with an arts & crafts space and a beautiful new closet for clothes. When you look at the purpose of every space in your home, instead of focusing on organizing one problem or area, new possibilities will surface that you didn’t see before! Organizing isn’t just about de-cluttering, it’s about making your home serve you (not the other way around!)
This week, we will be moving the 11 year-old son into the daughter’s old room and he will finally have a space of his own!
