For many people, books are a good thing! However, sometimes too much of a good thing can be a BAD thing if books start taking over your home!
This week while working with a client, she was sharing how much she loves to read and re-read books! She is in four different book clubs and is a researcher by trade. You can probably imagine how many books she has accumulated through the years. Books to her represent knowledge, life and fun.
For this client in particular, books started also representing a lack of time, a lack of energy, and a lack of order. They had begun to take over her home. She no longer wanted to have friends over…or even family.
I knew we could create an alternative to her compulsive collecting of books. After an extensive intake assessment, we created a solution!
She would create a binder separated by genres of books where she could list the books she wanted to read. So instead of running out the purchase Oprah’s new favorite book or her best friend’s newest discovery, she can simply record it in her book binder. Then, when she is ready to start a new book, she can review her list and pick the one that sounds the most interesting!
The second part to this life change was to donate the books she has already read to the local library. Now, if she ever does want to re-read a book she no longer has to store it, but still has access to it!
Do you have a category of “stuff” that is taking over your home? I challenge you this week to come up with a creative solution so that you can restore order to your home and life!
